  11. watching it and smile all the
  12. time, while considering the group
  13. which has this time made a production
  14. using THAT tool. Funny how
  15. unproductive crews, groups you
  16. haven't heard of before or pseudo
  17. cracking groups can make a somewhat
  18. wellrounded production using THAT
  19. tool, although the effects are getting
  20. older and you can still discern it's
  21. true nature by looking at the effects,
  22. particularely the screen clear
  23. effects.

  25. OK, let's not postpone it anylonger,
  26. I'm ofcourse writing about the
  27. powerful (and somewhat old) successor
  28. of the ancient DemoMaker. The name is
  29. Demomaniac, a very effective tool for
  30. creating demos. If you're "skilled"
  31. enough, you can almost produce a demo
  32. where you can't see that's it's not
  33. coded by the group. Almost, but not
  34. quite. Over time I've made a list of
  35. groups who've made productions using
  36. Demomaniac. This list is beyond a
  37. shadow of doubt, I've even
  38. disassembled the productions to be
  39. sure. It would be quite funny to
  40. publish it, there are quite a few
  41. groups on the list that are at least
  42. somewhat known. But no, it really
  43. would be unfair towards those groups,
  44. like condemning them for using
  45. Demomaniac, heh. It was more fun in
  46. the old days, when absolute lamers (or
  47. to be fair, beginners) "made" demos
  48. using DemoMaker. However, those demos
  49. were much easier to discern for what
  50. they were than Demomaniac is ;)

  52. Anyway, what I wanted to state was
  53. that it's not that seldom that a group
  54. releases a production made with
  55. Demomaniac. I won't delve into what
  56. that implies about the group, in a
  57. scene where the use of such tools is
  58. widely believed to show lack of skills
  59. or even outright lameness. There might
  60. be some defending the use of
  61. Demomaniac, stating that without a
  62. coder in their group, they need to
  63. convey messages and displays of their
  64. other prowess, and then they have to
  65. use that tool. But I guess such people
  66. should just join groups with a "real"
  67. coder then.

  69. As a last note, one of the most funny
  70. Demomaniac demos I've seen was a
  71. German one, with ripped music, lots of
  72. Demomaniac effects and a text stating
  73. how long that demo had taken to
  74. develop (several years) ;)
  75. Unfortunately I've deleted it, I
  76. should've kept it and seen it when I
  77. felt like laughing, hehe..
